Artist Statement Sarah Barnaby is a professional artist who has been interested in painting since she was a little girl. Inspired by her great-grandmother, Annie Laurie Lavender, who was a well-known local artist in North Georgia, she painted off and on as a hobby until 2004. During that time, Sarah pursued careers in teaching and nursing. In 2004, Sarah began studying seriously under Old Masters style instructors, such as Deborah Elmquist, Toelle Hovan, and Joshua Fallik. She has also studies landscape and pleine aire techniques under Barbara Perotti and Karen Winslow, who taught her the use of the prismatic palette.
Sarah has shown since 2004 in a variety of East Central Florida galleries including Artists Guild Gallery of Vero Beach, St. Lawrence Title of Orlando, James Harper Fine Arts in Ormond Beach, Artist Workshop of New Smyrna Beach, and Art Affair in Sanford, Florida. She is currently showing at the gallery in Dunn's Attic in Ormond Beach, Florida, the online gallery at Xanadu Gallery of Scottsdale, Arizona, and a variety of venues in the Daytona Beach area. She lives with her family, which includes two furry kids, in Central Florida.
Sarah's work includes landscapes, still lifes, figures in an environment, and the occasional surreal theme. Her philosophy of painting is based on the concept of telling a story by capturing a moment in time.
